Ken Coates

Public policy professor and Canada Research Chair in Regional Innovation

Ken is one of Canada’s leading researchers on Indigenous rights, Indigenous participation in the natural resource economy, and northern treaties and governance. He is the Canada Research Chair in Regional Innovation at the U of S, and his research focuses on the future of innovation and the commercialization of science and technology, as well as skills training and entrepreneurship in rural and remote areas. His work has been influential in developing policies and strategies for working with Indigenous peoples in Canada and internationally, and has profoundly challenged the public understanding of Indigenous rights and responsibilities.
